Your Bible Question
April-25-24

Does the Bible ever name the twenty-four elders who are mentioned in Rev. 4:4;?

Rev 4:4; reads:

“And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and

upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in

white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.”

The twenty-four elders are not named in the book of Revelation or anywhere else in the Bible. Speculation would be fruitless. This chapter is giving us a description of the glory of God in heaven. The emphasis is not on the elders, or the living creatures in the later verses, but on God. All else in heaven is subservient to Him, and He is being worshipped. Not even heavenly beings are to be worshipped – only God. This is what Rev. 22:8-9; also teaches us, when an angel told John to not worship him, but God.

Sadly, today some men and women revere, venerate and worship: animals, people (living and dead), angels, idols, icons, relics, and or other supposed holy objects. The scriptures always teach us that only God is to be worshipped. Thank you for your question.
